A+J | Roxborough State Park, Colorado Engagement Photography

Allie and Jake picked one of my favorite (semi) hidden gems for their engagement session from my location recommendation list, Roxborough State Park in Littleton Colorado. Generally, when people think of Colorado engagement sessions, they think of the rocky mountains, high elevation cliffs with sweeping views, and hikes where you have to stop every few minutes to catch your breath. However, I love that Colorado has such diverse amounts of beauty to offer, and the red rocks here are some of my favorite unique features in this state. I’m from Arizona, so I’m not realizing how similar Colorado is in the sense that red rocks are everywhere! There are plenty of these formations to see near Denver, in Morrison, near Colorado Springs, and the list goes on. This location is nestled about 40 minutes from Denver in Littleton. The drive into the park is breath taking, and it was actually one of the first spots I ever did a couple photo session in Colorado. It is SO green and lush in the summer, and little wildflowers line the trails. There are endless sights to see, from (of course) red rocks, to trees, to an open plain with mountains and views of the pink skies in the distance. Also, deer. Everywhere. If you’re a nature lover like me, this place will really get you going.

I had only met Allie and Jake during the wedding consultation on Zoom, so I was super excited to finally meet them in person! I love engagement sessions because it gives me a chance to really get to know my couples before the wedding, and it also helps YOU get comfortable in front of the camera and familiar with how I direct humans during a session. People always leave photo shoots telling me how much fun they had, which I take as the biggest compliment ever.

From the moment we started photographing, I knew Allie and Jake were naturals. They were all smiles and fed off of each other’s energy so wonderfully. I love how you can just see their joy through these photos, and how peaceful of an evening it was. I created space for them space to snuggle on a blanket, prompted them to whisper love notes in each other’s ears, and suggested frolicking through fields while laughing and soaking up each other’s company. Of course, we also had to pop a bottle of Champagne which did result in Jake getting a little bit sprayed, but totally worth it.

I absolutely LOVE engagement sessions. I always leave them feeling like my heart is so full it could overflow (maybe that’s a weird visual). But it’s true. Couples being able to connect with their photographers (and vice versa) is so important. It allows space to open up, and share vulnerable emotions. Learning about your connection also helps me create images that represent how you feel for your partner. I want to be a friend alongside one of the biggest days of your life, and throughout the entire process of your union. SO much love for my couples!
