Echo Lake, Colorado Engagement Photography
Echo Lake Engagement Photos, Idaho Springs, Colorado
If you’re looking for an engagement session location with a stunning alpine lake that has the most magical reflections on the water at sunset and is an easy drive from Denver, Echo Lake near Idaho Springs, Colorado, is hard to beat. Sitting at the base of Mount Blue Sky, this spot has it all, including pine forests and squirrels that will sometimes bark at you (in a cute way.)
For this engagement session with Kayla and Alex, we spent the golden and blue hour (my favorite time for photos) exploring the trails, asking them to do piggyback rides, and dancing by the lake to a song that was meaningful to their time together and their engagement. I love those intimate emotional moments where I can step back and let couples connect over something that reminds them of each other.
What to Expect During an Engagement Session With Me
I focus on natural, authentic images and never awkward poses (you know the ones I’m talking about.) Think walking hand in hand while chatting about your favorite things to have for dinner, or reminiscing about your first trip together. I always promise that although some prompts may feel silly, it’s the reaction that comes after that makes those effortless photos that don’t feel posed. And if you aren’t the kind of couple who likes to chat about their feelings, no worries, I’ve got you with other fun and playful prompts that incorporate movement and exploring instead of gazing into each other’s eyeballs.
Every couple is different, and that’s what I love about engagement or couple sessions! I feel honored to get a glimpse into a couple’s unique dynamic, especially before capturing their wedding (which I am beyond excited to photograph Kayla and Alex again this summer at Piney River Ranch near Vail).
Adding Film for a Nostalgic Look!
You can now add an analogue 35mm film roll to any session (woo!) For this Echo Lake shoot, I brought along a 3D-printed lens that mimics the look of a disposable film camera. These shots had a soft, nostalgic quality that brings a different energy than the digital images' crisp detail. Although these “film-like” images were shot digitally, I also offer a fully analogue option on one of my vintage film cameras (yep, the kind where you send the roll off to the lab and they do their thing with all of the chemicals.) Although film is now trendy, I actually learned photography on a film camera with my uncle, who owned a film camera shop! And yes, each session also includes a gif (the first moving image.)
As a Colorado wedding and engagement photographer, my goal is to capture the genuine connection between you and your partner while giving you a relaxed but oh so fun experience. If that sounds like the vibe you’re looking for, let’s plan your session!
