Cozy In-Home Denver Maternity Photos with Victoria + Julie | Colorado Maternity Photographer
When people think about maternity photos in Colorado, they may only picture running through a field with mountains in the background. While I obviously love photographing any session outdoors, there's something incredibly special and intimate about an in-home maternity session.
Victoria and Julie were so excited to capture their maternity session in a place that means a lot to them - the home they bought and lovingly remodeled together. This is the place where they decided to grow their family and will soon welcome their baby girl. All of those little nooks that you see every day hold stories and memories of preparing the nursery, snuggling on the couch with the dogs, and getting ready for their next big adventure as a family.
What made this session even more special is that Victoria and Julie aren't new clients. Over the years, I've had the honor of documenting nearly every major milestone in their relationship. I photographed their surprise proposal & engagement session, wedding day, and now their maternity photos! The only thing missing was me capturing their first date (can you imagine?)
While I am best known as a Colorado wedding photographer, many of my maternity photography clients are couples whose weddings I've photographed in the past. Couples often ask me if I do maternity photos, and although I haven’t marketed these sessions as visibly as my wedding work, the answer is always a big yes! This blog post will hopefully answer the question of what a maternity session with me looks like. Being an LGBTQ+ affirming photographer is a huge part of both my business and who I am, so I always approach your photos with a genuine understanding of and appreciation for each couple’s unique relationship dynamics.
Why I Love In-Home Maternity Photography
In-home maternity sessions create a level of comfort that is hard to replicate.
You don't have to worry about unpredictable weather, crowded locations, or hiking while pregnant. Instead, you get to relax with a cup of coffee in your favorite chair, or dance in your living room surrounded by your pets and plants.
For Victoria and Julie, this session meant spending time surrounded by photos of their life together while they excitedly anticipate the next chapter with their daughter.
One of the other reasons I recommend in-home maternity photography is that it's perfect for winter (or even Denver’s notoriously hot summers!)
Colorado winters are beautiful, but standing outside in freezing temperatures during isn't always the first choice for some couples. In-home maternity sessions allow couples to stay comfortable year-round in a space that feels safe and familiar.
If you're searching for a Denver maternity photographer or Colorado maternity photographer and want photos that feel personal and meaningful, I am a big fan of an in-home session. Of course, if you want to go on a mountain adventure or park picnic date, I am always down for some quality nature time in one of your favorite spots.
Documenting Every Part of Your Story
My couples mean the world to me and I genuinely am elated to see how connections grow over the years.
Some of the couples I photograph become wedding clients, maternity clients, and eventually family photography clients. Being invited back to document each moment is the biggest honor of all time.
The chapter before officially becoming parents is such a special part of your history that deserves to be documented. The excitement of looking at the sonogram of your baby and envisioning life with another human that you created together is a time period that is rich with emotion.
Whether you're newly engaged, planning your wedding, expecting your first baby, or celebrating another exciting part of life, I'd love to make sure you have photos to look back on and smile.
