Southwest LGBTQ+ Engagement Photography

As a wedding and couple photographer based in Colorado, one of my favorite places to travel for sessions is Arizona. I am actually from Arizona and grew up photographing couples there for over a decade before moving to Colorado in 2018! Phoenix is PERFECTION in the “winter”, I love escaping the cold and frolicking around in the desert on a perfect 75-degree January day with golden sunsets year round. I was lucky enough to capture Joanna and Eugenia’s engagement photos near the Superstition Mountains right outside of Phoenix in Apache Junction. This is also the same location I photographed their wedding at The Paseo in Apache Junction, Arizona 1 year later (coming to the blog soon)! I met Jo and Eugenia when I still lived in Arizona and was always so inspired by their relationship over the years. They are the definition of a power couple, and are genuinely so lovely together. I am adding them to my mental mood board for life.

I could not believe how lucky we got on the day of their engagement session. The desert was putting on a show and gifted us the most magical golden light (oh how I miss desert lighting and sunsets more than anything.) Then the light faded into a purple sky, and we got the full color spectrum of sky possibilities this evening. On top of that, it was nearly a full moon, so toward the end of the night I captured the final images using only moonlight. Shoutout to my mirrorless camera for killing it in the low light so I could preserve the ambiance without a flash.

As a LGBTQ+ woman myself, I hear from a lot of my couples that they want to work with a photographer who understands their relationship dynamics. They don’t want someone who will pose them traditionally or like a hetero couple, and I TOTALLY relate. This is why I feel like it is so important to work with someone from our community who understands, validates, and respects your relationship so you don’t simply feel “tolerated” and instead you feel seen and celebrated on a personal level. I want your photos to represent the genuine connection you feel for your partner which is why I use a lot of prompts mixed with guidance so you can have space to be yourselves.

People often ask if I travel for sessions and the answer is always YES! Also, did you know this doesn’t change my pricing? There is just a small travel fee that covers the flight, transportation, and lodging if necessary and that’s it (generally for Arizona I can waive the lodging fee and stay with a friend.) I try to keep this as affordable as possible because I love to explore areas outside of Colorado and get to connect with amazing humans like J+E.

Are you from out of state but want to plan a session with me? Let’s chat about the details and get to know each other!
